“Iamnoman EP”
by
Pendle Coven
The twelve opens with ‘Exigen’, a true dubstyle destroyer rolling out a skanking pattern before layering up an almighty cloud of stratospheric dub chords just craving to be released. When the filigree hi hats and squashed snares hit home you know you’re in the presence of something hefty. ‘Iamnoman’ on the flip is just full of dread and menace, building up tension with layered chord and pressured kicks that somehow sound like the perfect union of Rob Hood’s minimal functionality, Scion style deep intent and the echo-chamber snare reverberation of Kode 9 – but it’s that sweeping signal from 20,000 leagues below that makes it a Pendle cut. ‘Uncivil Engineering’ finishes the EP off with something else altogether, making use of neon washes and steppers snares to unleash a more agile session situated somewhere between Martyn, 2562 and Maurizio.
